Journal Entry
Arriving in Sri Lanka and beginning my journey from Colombo toward the southern coast was an experience in itself. Having a chauffeur guide who not only drove but introduced me to the history of Galle and a comfortable vehicle made the entire trip effortless and enjoyable. As we traveled south, I watched the landscape gradually transform into stretches of golden beaches bordered by swaying coconut palms. The scenic drive allowed me to appreciate the natural beauty with lush greenery of Sri Lanka long before reaching my destination.
As I entered Galle Fort through its historic stone gateway, I felt as though I had stepped into another era. The centuries old walls, cobblestone streets, and beautifully preserved Dutch buildings immediately captured my attention. Walking through the narrow streets, I admired the remarkable architecture that blended European elegance with local Sri Lankan character.
One of the highlights of my visit was walking along the massive ramparts that surround the fort. Standing above the walls, I gazed across the endless blue waters of the Indian Ocean while the cool sea breeze provided welcome relief from the tropical warmth.
I spent time exploring the iconic Galle Lighthouse and enjoying freshly prepared seafood and traditional Sri Lankan egg rolls at a charming cafe within the fort. The warmth and hospitality of the local people added a special charm to the experience.
As evening approached, I watched the sunset paint the sky with shades of orange, pink, and gold. The peaceful atmosphere and timeless beauty of Galle Fort created memories that will stay with me forever.
